THINGS I'VE LEARNED FROM BEING AWAY FROM HOME/ BEING AT CORNELL FOR TWO WEEKS:
- A great learning experience. You simply can't learn about the real world without experiencing it first hand on your own.
- It really makes you grow up. I feel like I'm going to do well on my own once I go to college.
- Riding an airplane by yourself and getting stuck in airports can be a spontaneous and fun adventure!
- Misadventures, or when things do not go as you planned can actually bring a group closer together.
- I've learned a lot more about each of my fellow ILC peers while being on this journey with them, from their likes and dislikes, to their habits, talents, and flaws.
- Ms. Kaplan makes a long drive fun. I'm ready for that around-the-country-and-back road trip now!
- Although they come from a different state or a different country, they are not as different form you as you may think.
- Go ahead and meet new people. Smile, shake their hands, and sit with them during dinner. It's a great way to meet and make lots of new friends.
- Study groups: they actually help.
- If you have a question, do not hesitate to ask your TA during office hours.
- Speak up during Discussion Sections. That's what they're for. Don't be afraid that you say dumb things.
- You should pay more attention to your mother the next time she loads the washing and drying machines.
- Always carry your Cornell ID with you wherever you go.
- You need a good balance of work and fun. Don't become a studying hermit.
- Meet your Residential Community Advisors; they are fun to know.
- Enjoy the walk to class or you'll miss the beautiful campus around you.
- Do it now! NEVER PROCRASTINATE.
- Buy a packet of water. $1.75 for a bottle can really add up if you get thirsty often.
- Participate in as many events the summer college has to offer.
- Meet international students. You'll be surprised how much they will teach you.
Great list! And we can really rock on the road in the giant Suburban! Get ready for country music.
