An Aside: Market Place Magazine Publishes an Article About the ILC!

On Saturday, I received the monthly Contra Costa Market Place magazine in the mail. This edition was special because an article regarding the Pinole Valley High School students involved in the ILC this year was published within it. And since 4 of the students from Pinole Valley are attending Cornell this summer, I thought I'd share the article:

About Us

What you have here is the Cornell University Summer College troop of 2010. We are a group of seven; representing the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) of California through the Ivy League Connection (ILC). Thanks to the ILC, we have been given the chance of a lifetime to make our mark on the East Coast and take summer classes at the prestigious Cornell University.

There are three juniors and four sophomores in our little brigade. Jacky Lares, Beilul Naizghi, and Christopher Habash are from Hercules High School and will be studying under Professor Reneta McCarthy in the "Hotel Operations Management: Tactics for Profitability" course. Andrew Woo, Andrew Gonzales, Alex Elms, and Wing So are from Pinole Valley High School and will be taking the course of "Freedom and Justice: The Law in Theory and Practice", under Professor Isaac Kramnick.  

By being part of the Ivy League Connection, we are essentially appointed ambassadors for our district, ready to absorb all that we will learn, see, and experience during our time on the East Coast and have it ready to bring back to people at home. In addition to this, we are also students ready to take on the rigors of summer classes at Cornell, to prove that yes, WCCUSD students can and will succeed. We are ready to take on this new and exciting challenge.  

So what will happen during in the three weeks that we shall be on the other side of the country? What will we see 2,400 miles away from home? What will we learn from there?
